York, England, is home to the University of York, a college research university. It commenced in 1963. In the list of Top Global Universities, the University of York ranks #260. In addition, we are listed as the 16th institution in the UK and the top 45 globally for arts and humanities and social sciences, respectively, in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. According to the QS World University Rankings 2022, we are rated 151st. On average, just 27% of applicants are accepted to York University Toronto.

Entry Requirements:

Undergraduate:

If you are leaving high school with a ‘Higher Secondary’ or ‘Intermediate Certificate’ in Pakistan you will need to take an additional course before being able to apply for an undergraduate course at York. This could be A levels, the International Baccalaureate, or a recognized foundation course.

Postgraduate

You would need at least the equivalent of a UK upper second-class honors degree (2:1), however, some courses will accept lower second-class honors degrees (2:2).
A score of 70% (GPA 2.8 out of 4) is considered comparable to a UK 2:1
A score of 60% (GPA 2.4 out of 4) is considered comparable to a UK 2:2
2 or 3-year bachelor’s degree
A score of 70% (GPA 2.8 out of 4) or above in both your Bachelors’s and Masters’s degrees (equivalent to a UK 2:1)
A score of 60 to 69% (GPA at least 2.4 out of 4) in your Bachelors combined with a Master’s degree score of 60% to 69% (GPA at least 2.4 out of 4, equivalent to a UK 2:2).

English Language Requirements:

IELTS UKVI: 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component

TOEFLibt: 87 overall, with a minimum of 21 in each component

PTE: 61, with a minimum of 55 in each component

Postgraduate:

IELTS: 6.5, minimum 6.5 in Writing and 6.0 in all other components

TOEFL Ibt 87, minimum 23 in Writing and 21 in all other components

The University of York Scholarships:

Undergraduate Be Exceptional Scholarship

By applying to the Be Exceptional scholarships, you will also automatically be considered for the prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s scholarships.

Eligibility: Open to International (including EU) students only.

To be eligible for a Be Exceptional scholarship, you must:

  • have a conditional or unconditional offer to study at the University of York by 21 March 2022 (round one) or 20 June 2022 (round two) (you don’t need to have accepted the offer)
  • be paying fees at the overseas fee rate (any fee assessments must be completed by 21 March 2022 [round one] or 20 June 2022 [round two])
  • Intend to study a full-time undergraduate or a postgraduate taught master’s course.

You will not be eligible if:

  • you hold a 100 percent tuition fee scholarship or are fully sponsored
  • You are an undergraduate student and have made us your insurance choice before 21 March 2022 (round one) or 20 June 2022 (round two).

Students on the following pathways are not eligible for these scholarships:

  • Hull York Medical School
  • MSc Nursing (Mental Health) and MSc Nursing (Adult)
  • MA in Public Policy: Governance and Development

C) Round 2 is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate taught applicants. Undergraduate applicants should note that the deadline to accept a course offer from UCAS is before the application deadline date for these scholarships

Once offered a scholarship, you must:

  1. Accept the offer formally, following the link within your offer email
  2. Make York your firm choice

These actions must complete by the deadline provided in your offer email. Otherwise, you will lose your scholarship, and it will offer to a reserve candidate.

Vice-Chancellor’s scholarship
The Vice-Chancellor’s scholarships award the highest-achieving international students with a tuition fee discount.
How we award
Undergraduate

If you are awarded this scholarship at the undergraduate level, you will receive:

  • a £10,000 tuition fee discount in your first year
  • a £5,000 tuition fee discount in your second year
  • a £5,000 tuition fee discount in your third year.

    Postgraduate taught
    If you are awarded this scholarship at the postgraduate taught level, you will receive a £10,000 tuition fee discount.

York Opportunity Scholarship


The York Opportunity Scholarships have been established to provide support to talented students who have the academic potential to study at York.
Funding: Â£3,300 paid over three years
Academic year: 2021/22
Open to: UK (home) students
Qualification level: Undergraduate
Each scholarship is worth a total of £3,300, paid in annual installments of £1,100 for three years. These scholarships have been extremely competitive in previous years.
Eligibility: Open to UK (home) students only.


You must meet all of the essential criteria to
consider for a scholarship:

  • You are holding an offer to study at the University of York at the undergraduate level for entry in September 2021 (this is inclusive of undergraduates holding entry in September 2021 for a four-year intercalated master’s degree); or you are holding an offer to study at the University of York on a foundation year program for entry in September 2021.
  • You are a permanent resident in the UK, classified as Home (UK) in university admissions procedures, and have a household income below £70,004.
  • You studied in a UK state school or college.
  • You can show that you have faced significant barriers in your personal, social or domestic life that have affected your journey through school and college.
  • You should be able to demonstrate how a significant barrier might have caused you to have experienced a period of disrupted education.

You must also meet at least one of the additional criteria:

  • Be from a background underrepresented in higher education, as follows:
    a. British Black background (such as Black or Black British – Caribbean, Black or Black British – African or another Black background)
    b. Asian or Asian British background (such as Asian or Asian British – Indian, Asian or Asian British – Pakistani, Asian or Asian British – Bangladeshi)
    c. Mixed or multiple ethnicity background (such as White and Black Caribbean, White and Black African, White and Asian)
    d. Roma, Gypsy, or Irish Traveller background (including Boater or Showmen communities)
