The University of the Sunshine Coast is a public university based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. After opening with 524 students in 1996 as the Sunshine Coast University College, it was later renamed the University of the Sunshine Coast in 1999. At UniSC, we offer our international students a range of scholarship opportunities. Scholarships enable students, usually residents of the United Kingdom, to undertake a higher degree at an Australian University. On the Sunshine Coast, educational institutions offer several scholarships for domestic and international students to apply for.
International Student Scholarship
The International Student Scholarship is a 15% tuition fee reduction offered to commencing international students in 2024.
English Excellence Scholarship
The English Excellence Scholarship is a 20% tuition fee reduction that is awarded to commencing international students in 2024 who have achieved higher than required results in a recognized English language proficiency test. Refer to the table in the terms and conditions to determine if you are eligible.
Terms and Conditions
- The International Student and English Excellence scholarships apply to the officially scheduled and published tuition fees for the relevant program and study period.
- The International Student Scholarship and the English Excellence Scholarship are available to international students commencing in 2024. They cannot be deferred past a 2024 intake.
- The International Student Scholarship and the English Excellence Scholarship are valid for the duration of the program/s for which an offer was made.
- To be eligible for the English Excellence Scholarship, students must achieve a minimum specified result in one of three recognized English proficiency tests: IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, or PTE. The English Excellence Scholarship is unavailable to UniSC English language program students.
- Neither the International Student nor the English Excellence Scholarship can be used with other UniSC international scholarships or tuition fee reductions (e.g., partner discount).
- To remain eligible for the International Student Scholarship or the English Excellence Scholarship, students must continue to be classed as international students.
Vice-Chancellor’s Honours Scholarship
Students commencing Honours study after completion of their Bachelor degree
UniSC Vice-Chancellor’s Honours Scholarships are to encourage and support students commencing an Honours program, with a long term view to enter the research field.
Scholarship payments will be made approximately three weeks after Census Date of each Semester, once enrolment has been confirmed.
Value | A$5,000 per annum for up to one year of full-time study (comprising 96 units). Part-time students will receive pro rata payment, equivalent to the units of study. |

- Enrolled as a Commonwealth-supported student in any ‘end-on’ Honours program (e.g., not an embedded Honours or Professional Honours program)
- not already in receipt of a UniSC merit scholarship or a UniSC Honours or postgraduate Indigenous Scholarship for Honours year of study.
Selection criteria
- academic merit, based on GPA for advanced-level courses undertaken
- research focus and potential alignment to a UniSC area of research concentration – UniSC Research concentrations
- intention/motivation for ongoing study/research and pursuit of a Higher Degree by Research (HD
Environmental Legacy Foundation (ELF)
Sustainability Honours Bursary
Honours year students enrolled full-time or part-time with a focus on environmental sustainability
Established in 2007, the Environmental Legacy Foundation (ELF) is a non-profit organisation that aims to use collaborative approaches to create scientific methods of treating and reducing pollution. Bursary payment will be made approximately three weeks after Census Date, once enrolment has been confirmed.
Please Note: This scholarship or bursary is offered on a yearly basis through funds provided by an external donor. If funding is not available in any given year, the scholarship or bursary will not be awarded.

- Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Permanent Australian Humanitarian Visa holder, or Permanent Resident of Australia

- Minimum GPA 5.0
- Demonstration of how the research project supports the aims of ELF to contribute to the protection and enhancement of the natural environment and natural heritage within the Sunshine Coast region
Destination Australia Scholarship
The Destination Australia Scholarships program aims to attract and support students to study in regional Australia, to grow and develop regional Australian tertiary education providers and offer students a high quality learning experience.

- commencing full-time study in 2024 at UniSC Fraser Coast or Gympie campus
- Maintain ongoing residency in a regional area* for the duration of the program.
- Enrolled in one of the following programs:
- Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Primary Education, Bachelor of Social Work, or any Diploma program at the Fraser Coast campus
- Bachelor of Nursing or any Diploma program at the Gympie Campus
- Higher Degree by Research programs at the Fraser Coast or Gympie campus
Selection criteria
Applicants must submit the Destination Australia Scholarship Application Form, which must include the following:
- A personal statement demonstrating commitment to studying and supporting the regional community in which you will be studying
- Evidence of academic merit, if applicable (examples may include transcripts, awards, and commendations.
