SUPRA scholarships are available to both future and current students enrolled in or applying for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Professional Doctorate course at Swinburne.

Selection criteria
When a Swinburne research scholarships round is open, applications are considered from applicants who:
- meet the entry requirments for a PhD or Professional Doctorate at Swinburne.
- hold a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours (or equivalent).
- propose a research project that aligns with a research strategy and ecosystem area.
Applicants should ensure that they meet one of the following criteria:
- are a prospective PhD or Professional Doctorate candidate
- are currently enrolled in a Swinburne PhD or Professional Doctorate for less than two years at the closing date of the application round OR
- have received an offer for candidature for a Swinburne PhD or Professional Doctorate and have not yet enrolled.

Judith Kinnear Student Travel Scholarship
Judith Kinnear is a former student of Swinburne who has also been the Vice-Chancellor at Massey University in New Zealand. This scholarship is designed to be used by a student enrolled in a postgraduate degree, either a Masters (by research) or PhD in the School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies or School of Engineering for travel to attend a conference, visit colleagues at a research institute, meet potential business or research collaborators, or similar.
Value | This scholarship is valued at $5,000. The scholarship payment will be made as a reimbursement when original receipts are presented and submitted to the University, for example conference registration, flight and/or accommodation bookings. |

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Judith Kinnear Student Travel Scholarship, applicants must:
- Meet the following enrolment criteria:
- be a continuing Swinburne student in Semester 1, 2024
- enrolled full-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
- Submit a personal statement of 500 words addressing how the attendance at a ‘significant career-impacting international event’ will be of professional benefit to them and impact on their career
- Demonstrate that they have limited or no access to University or external funding for their travel plans/visit and that without the appropriate funding, will not be able to undertake the travel
- Provide an estimated breakdown of costs required (i.e. conference registration, flight and/or accommodation costs, etc)
- Be undertaking their travel in the year the Scholarship is awarded.
Note: Applicants will seek their own independent advice from the relevant authorities on the effect, if any, that any travel out of Australia may have any visa implications.

Research Training Program Stipend – RTPS
RTPS scholarships are awarded to candidates of exceptional research potential, enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) course of study, to assist with general living costs.
These scholarships are available to both future and current students enrolled in or applying for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Professional Doctorate course at Swinburne.
