Vancouver Island University (abbreviated as VIU) is also known as Malaspina University-College and previously as Malaspina College. A government institution in Canada covering Vancouver Island and coastal British Columbia. Malaspina College came into existence in 1969 and has since become an institution that is significant to the area’s educational, cultural, and economic life.

There is a center in Parksville, a satellite campus each in Duncan and Powell River, and the principal building is in Nanaimo.
